How, for example, do we categorize the revival of ancient Egyptian religion in America inspired by sacred literature like Awakening Osiris, Normandi Ellis classic rendition of the Egyptian book of the dead first published in 1988 by the small but influential Phanes Press. Ellis has published 14 books bringing to life for her readers many aspects of the ancient Egyptian spirituality and the nuanced meanings of hieroglyphics. She is also a spiritualist minister in camp chesterfield, a clairvoyant medium certified by the Indiana Association of Spiritualists, and earned her doctorate of divinity with a dissertation that investigates beliefs in the existence of angels across Western, Eastern, and Silk Road traditions, including Yazidi beliefs about the Peacock Angel. In personal correspondence about her research used with her permission she writes, “I discovered primarily that angels are a state of consciousness.”
